Background:
A leading international high technology original equipment manufacturer (OEM), had several new product launches containing new technology in the pipeline. The OEM also wanted to consolidate their plastic parts and mould tool supply chain. The target was to find new partners to create a transparent and efficient plastic parts supply chain with reduced design-to-market lead time and minimum operational waste. The OEM abandoned suppliers that didn't have profound know-how and resources for design, manufacturing or after sales service. The OEM wanted to test the cooperation with Sabriscan. Solution: First SabriScan got a small order of a few moulds to customer's new product range. Customer audited profoundly Sabriscan and the delivered products and wanted to take the next step in cooperation. SabriScan took responsibility of a new product family development including product design for manufacturing (DFM) and design and supply chain. Sabriscan method and ideal process, that follow the lean principles, were applied in the work. The products were split into two different categories to two different injection moulders in Finland. Sabriscan selected a tool maker, in this case in China. SabriScan was coordinating the project and ensuring the production ramp-up in Finland. After the successful project Sabriscan took responsibility of after sales services including modifications, maintenance and spare parts. Benefits: The customer won renowned iF Product Design award for the product family that was developed during the project. The plastic parts were manufactured in a cost efficient way in Finland close to OEM assembly site while taking the benefits of tool manufacturing in China. |
The delivery accuracy and product quality has improved significantly. Customer revenue jumped 20% after launching the new product range. All this had a positive impact to local employment rates. Supply chain partners benefited as well, injection moulders received AAA-credit worthiness and "best company in Finland" certificates.
The successful project created a strong partnership between SabriScan and the customer. A new project was launch to build a similar supply chain in India, but this time selecting the supply chain partners among the Indian companies. The OEM was able to open production in India and SabriScan reinforced considerably its presence and know-how in Indian market. |
