Multi-component lighting mould with integrated electronics
Background
A customer wanted to develop a completely new lighting product, that combines several new technologies. In addition the product should be manufactured cost efficiently with significantly lower cost than what traditional manufacturing methods offer. Customer core competence was in lighting technology and in managing the plastic injection process, but not in analysing the product manufacturability (DFM) or managing the mould tool supply chain. The customer contacted SabriScan, because they knew from the experience that the company is able to provide with complete solutions and high precision machining Solution In the beginning SabriScan and the customer drafted key requirements for the product. Based on these requirements SabriScan made their internal analysis (SIPOC, ISHIKAWA). This was followed by project plan and detailed action plan with the timetable. SabriScan had responsibility of the manufacturability (DFM), it did tests to different manufacturing technologies (DoE), and clarified the issues around the mouldability with the producer of the foreign plastic raw material that conducts electricity. |
SabriScan was able to combine all the separate technologies into one mould design (PDCA) and to manufacture the mould combining all the features in one package.
Benefit to customer The result wast the first in the world injection moulded multi-component lighting product that doesn't need any electrical wires. In addition the product uses LED-technology and advanced optics. The product consumes considerably less electricity than traditional lights and the integrated multi-component construction enables cost-efficient production and new possibilities in future design of lighting products. Finally, the international automotive industry awarded the customer product and SabriScan a "world best lighting product" nomination. |
